RECLAIMING THE DARK FEMININE: HEALING THE SUPPRESSED INTUITION OF WOMEN

Reclaiming the Dark Feminine: Healing the Suppressed Intuition of Women
For years, I kept my spiritual and intuitive side hidden. I conformed to societal expectations, attending university and earning a Master’s degree to bear the credentials of a psychotherapist. Credibility was king, and I wore my academic achievements like armour, shielding the parts of me that felt too unconventional, too mystical, and too raw to bring into the light. Yet, behind the therapy desk, supporting girls and women, I felt a deep rumbling inside me—an intuitive knowing that didn’t fit within the rules of traditional therapy.
Traditional methods never fully worked for me, so why would I expect them to work for other women? I had my own private practice because working under a governing body in the helping field felt like wearing a straitjacket. Even in my own space, I was bound by the proverbial jacket of conformity. Until I started acting out.
I began bringing crystals & stones into my sessions, then affirmation cards, and eventually, tarot and oracle cards. It was subtle at first, but with every step, I felt closer to the authentic healer I was meant to be. I allowed my intuitive and spiritual aspects into the therapy room because I always returned to them in my own healing. If I wanted to learn to fully accept, trust, and show compassion to myself, I had to get to know the parts of me I had kept hidden in the closet.
And something remarkable happened. When I started sharing this part of myself, women began sharing theirs. Stories of connecting with their intuition and spiritual practices, often quietly and in secret, began to emerge. These were parts of themselves they only accessed in the safety of their grandmother’s kitchen, in whispered conversations with their mothers, or within small, trusted circles of friends. It was like I had opened a door, and they were walking through it with tentative steps, realizing they weren’t alone in condemning this part of themselves.
As I began running women’s groups and bringing forward spiritual tools, I could see the deep damage societal and cultural conditioning had done to women’s intuition and spiritual connection. It wasn’t just their personal shame or secrecy; it was generations of suppression embedded in our collective consciousness.
The Suppression of Women’s Intuition and Spirituality
Historically, women’s intuition and spiritual practices were revered. In ancient cultures, women served as healers, priestesses, and oracles, embodying a sacred connection to nature and the divine. But patriarchal fear of this power led to systematic suppression. Practices once honoured became demonized as “witchcraft,” and women were persecuted for their intuitive gifts during events like the witch trials.
Societal expectations further restricted women’s roles to caretakers and nurturers, leaving no room for self-exploration or spiritual pursuits. Anything deemed “unorthodox” or “individualistic” was discouraged, lest it disrupt the societal structure. This conditioning became internalized over generations, with women learning to hide their spiritual practices for fear of ridicule, rejection, or worse.
Even today, unconventional spirituality is often misunderstood or dismissed as frivolous or “woo-woo.” Women who explore these paths risk being labeled as eccentric, ungrounded, or unscientific. The fear of judgment keeps many from openly embracing this integral part of themselves.
Reclaiming the Dark Feminine
The suppressed intuition and spirituality that women carry is part of the archetype of the Dark Feminine. This energy is wild, untamed, and unapologetically powerful. She is the part of us that thrives in the shadows, embraces our inner wisdom, and connects us to our raw truth. Reclaiming her means confronting the conditioning that taught us to fear our power and embracing the fullness of who we are.
When I began integrating spiritual tools into my practice, I realized that healing wasn’t just about talking through wounds or regulating our nervous systems—it was about accessing the deeper, intuitive parts of ourselves. The parts that whisper truths we’re afraid to hear. The parts that hold the keys to our liberation.
A Path Forward: The Three-Card Spread
To help you begin reclaiming your own Dark Feminine power, I’ve created a three-card spread designed to guide you through this journey:
Card 1:
What part of my shadow self needs healing?
Journal Prompt: What emotions, fears, or desires have I been suppressing or avoiding? How have these hidden parts influenced my life or relationships?
Affirmation: "I honour the parts of myself that I have hidden. My shadow is a source of wisdom and healing."
Card 2:
How can I begin to reclaim my Dark Feminine power?
Journal Prompt: What bold or unapologetic action can I take to honour my truth? How can I embrace my sensuality, intuition, or raw emotions this week?
Affirmation: "I step into my power unapologetically, guided by my truth and intuition."
Card 3;
What will be unlocked once I embrace her fully?
Journal Prompt: What version of myself am I ready to embody? How will reclaiming my power change how I show up in the world?
Affirmation: "As I embrace my wholeness, I unlock my fullest potential and deepest joy."
How to Use the 3-Card Spread
Create a Sacred Space
Find a quiet, private space where you can focus without distractions. Light a candle, burn incense, or place crystals nearby to set the tone for your reading.
Set Your Intention
Take a few deep breaths and center yourself. Clearly state your intention, such as: “I am ready to explore my shadows, reclaim my power, and connect with my truth.”
Shuffle the Deck
While focusing on the three questions above, shuffle your tarot or oracle deck. Let your intuition guide you—stop when you feel ready, or notice if any cards “jump” out.
Draw the Cards
Lay out three cards in a row from left to right:
Card 1 (Shadow): Represents the part of your shadow self that needs healing.
Card 2 (Action): Suggests how to reclaim your Dark Feminine power.
Card 3 (Outcome): Reveals the transformation awaiting you.
Reflect and Journal
Use the journal prompts associated with each card to deepen your understanding. Write freely about what comes up and how the cards resonate with you.
Affirm Your Insights
End your reading by reciting the affirmations provided or creating your own. Speak them aloud to anchor the energy of your insights.
Take Inspired Action
Use the guidance from the spread to take tangible steps. For example, if Card 2 encourages embracing your creativity, spend time painting, journaling, or exploring a new passion.
Final Thoughts
Reclaiming your Dark Feminine isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about remembering who you’ve always been. It’s about peeling back the layers of conditioning and stepping into your truth. When you honour your intuition, connect with your spirituality, and embrace your shadows, you create space for profound healing and transformation—not just for yourself, but for the generations of women who came before and after you.
