WHY WOMEN FEEL UNSAFE IN WOMEN’S CIRCLES - AND WHY WE MUST GATHER ANYWAY
"When women gather with intention, we dissolve the wounds of competition and step into the healing power of true sisterhood. Together, we reclaim our safety, our trust, and our power to rise." ~ Angela xo
Do You Ever Feel Like You Can’t Fully Trust Other Women?
Have you ever hesitated before opening up in a women’s group, fearing judgment or comparison? Do you find yourself holding back, worried about being misunderstood or excluded? You’re not alone. Many women carry deep wounds when it comes to female relationships—wounds that are not our fault, but are part of a larger system designed to keep us divided.
Understanding Patriarchy: A Culture of Dominance, Not Just Gender
Patriarchy is often mistaken as a war between men and women, but at its core, it is a system of dominance that values power over connection, hierarchy over collaboration, and competition over community. While it has historically placed men in positions of authority, the real issue is not simply gender, but a culture that rewards control and diminishes emotional intelligence, intuition, and relational leadership—traits often associated with the feminine.
This system does not just shape men’s behaviour; it conditions women too. Many of us have unknowingly internalized its values, leading to patterns of self-doubt, competition, and distrust—especially in our relationships with other women. We long for deep, soul-nourishing sisterhood, yet many of us carry wounds that make authentic connection feel unsafe.
Why Do Women Feel Vulnerable in Women’s Circles?
Women’s gatherings should feel like safe spaces to share, support, and uplift one another. So why do so many of us feel anxious, guarded, or even resistant to fully showing up?
The answer lies in generations of conditioning that have left deep imprints on our nervous systems, shaping how we relate to other women.
The Shadow of Our Conditioning: How Patriarchy Divides Women
The culture of dominance teaches women that their worth is measured through external validation—particularly from men, but also through societal approval. As a result, many of us have unconsciously absorbed behaviours that foster division rather than connection:
Comparison & Competition – We are conditioned to see other women as rivals for attention, success, and belonging, creating a scarcity mindset instead of mutual support.
Judgment & Policing – Whether it’s body image, relationships, motherhood, career choices, or personal expression, women are often the first to criticize other women for “not doing it right.”
Fear of Betrayal – Many of us have been hurt in female friendships, leading to walls of self-protection and a deep-seated fear of being judged, excluded, or abandoned.
The ‘Good Girl’ Syndrome – To be accepted, women have been trained to be likeable, accommodating, and non-threatening, making it difficult to express true emotions, set boundaries, or claim personal power.
Silence Around Harm – In a system that punishes women for speaking up, we’ve learned to stay quiet about abuse, oppression, and injustice—even when it’s happening to us or another woman.
These patterns make it hard for women to trust one another fully, even in spaces meant for healing. But if we remain trapped in these wounds, we continue the cycle of disconnection and isolation.
Why Women’s Circles Are More Important Than Ever
At this moment in history, women must gather—not just as an act of self-care, but as an act of revolution. Healing cannot happen in isolation. To truly break free from these patterns, we need spaces where we can:
De-condition from patriarchal wounds – By recognizing and unlearning the programming we’ve inherited, we reclaim our ability to trust, connect, and uplift one another.
Feel seen, safe, and supported – When women come together with vulnerability and intention, we create the emotional safety that allows us to heal deep wounds of sisterhood and self-worth.
Break generational trauma – When we shift these patterns in ourselves, we model a new way of being for our daughters, nieces, and future generations.
Explore new ways of being – True feminine leadership is not about dominance, but collaboration, intuition, and relational power—things we must practise together.
Rise and thrive together – When one woman heals, she becomes a beacon for others. Women’s circles are portals to transformation, helping us step into our fullest expression and power.
Questions to Reflect On:
Have you ever felt hesitant to trust or open up to other women? Where do you think this hesitation comes from?
How have societal messages about competition and comparison influenced your female friendships?
What would it feel like to be in a space where women genuinely support and uplift each other?
How can you start unlearning patterns of judgment and self-doubt in your relationships with other women?
